If it is then why would the people in the middle ages do it? Why did they do it now and we dont? Why does it seem so disgusting to our generation and not way back then? I guess they did not know that their child might be born with special needs and a bigger chance of getting hit with a desiase.

Of course it is against the Christian Virtue of Chastity to engage in incest.

Incest was used by families in the middle ages as a means to maintain their royal status - and thus maintain political power. This is not a common practice today because royalty today is largely symbolic.

And people were largely aware of the possibility of genetic disorders and increased susceptibility to disease, but such people felt that maintaining power was worth the risk. This genetic reality put an end to many a royal lineage.

The important thing to note is that incest is immoral. It was immoral then, as it is immoral now. It might seem as if there is less incest now as there was in the past.

There is really no way to know whether or not there really is less incest in the world today than there was in the middle ages. Certainly there is less high-profile incest taking place.

Not at all. I was brought up as a Catholic and I hated all the incest in the churches. It made my eyes smart and I couldn't stop sneezing.
