I have another question (Sam J, perhaps you can add this to your calculations of how many questions have been asked)

What exactly is the fund for? I know that it's in a PLC so we will prob never find out but does anyone have any ideas? or even know what they originally intended it to be used for?

You don't need 1million for a private investigator, it isn't being used as reward money because J.K Rowling is offering that, as far as I know people don't pay the police for help, they claim they are not using it to pay for accomodation or any personal use...so how is the fund actually helping to find their daughter in any way? or is it just sitting in the bank collecting a nice chunk of interest?

we will find out when the company accounts are provided to companies house in 18months time. You will be able to access them on line and see exactly what the money was spent on.

It's a PLC because they weren't able to set it up as charity, as the fund is not for the general good, but to find one child. However if you check the find Madeleine fund website you will see they intend to have independent scrutiny of payments from the fund.

It amazes me that some people that talk as though this money is being stashed away for their future use haven't bothered visiting the site. If they had they would see any payments from the fund have to be approved by the 6 directors, only one of whom is a McCann.

In response to Mary Y's answer, I think Grumples should be able to ask what it is being spent on if she doesn't know. I am a mother and I find it very hard to show any empathy for people who neglect their children like that. I have children who are 13 and 10 and would not leave them in an apartment on their own while I went to get something to eat. If you want to eat you either a) take your children with you, b) put your children's needs before your own or c) don't take your children on holiday with you. I feel so sorry for Madelaine and what she is going through. Save your sympathy for her and not so much for her "intelligent" parents.

On their website they say only a small percentage of that money has been spent so far, in things like ads and family expenses.
Its all very strange. Looks like they're just letting it sit there so they can see how much they would get.
Now, wouldn't any normal parent just get the worlds best investigator, they've got the money, so why don't they just do it?

You're an idiot!

They can't legally invest the money so it's not going towards a 'new extention' like I saw some joker posted!

The fund is being spent on adverts, travel costs and general expences whilst moving around trying to get their daughter back!

I think they'd prefer their daughter back!

Is this all you talk about?

its up yo the people who donated their money out of the goodness of there hearts to help a family to find their missing child.I bet if you asked them they would'nt want it back. They want the family to use it as best as they can to find there little girl so does it realy matter what they do with the money. The money is unimportent. There is a little girl missing here so lets concentrate on her.name Madeline McCann.

And, at the risk of being called cranky...

To kamran
" life's good when you have a £1 million pounds, nice homes, cars, food, people cleaning your home "

Do you have children? Can you possibly put yourselves in their shoes and realize they know they made a mistake leaving the children alone, but no amount of beating themselves up is going to help Madeleine.

Money, nice homes, cars, food, servants..................do not even come anywhere close to making up for Madeleine's disappearence. All the money in the world won't make up for it.
Please re-think your response, trying to find some empathy for them, instead of such hurtful remarks. JMHO

Steven M is right, advertising is extremely expensive, tv adverts cost thousands for a ten second clip and they have had television adverts and cinema adverts as well as flyers, posters, luggage tags and many other forms of advertising. Its the type of advertising multi-million pound companies use, so its incredibly expensive.

I find this question a little immature, the people working to help find Madeline will need paying, not to mention phone bills and paper. I can tell you, whatever is left of the fund will be going to a children's charity, all I can say is a £1,000,000 's worth of people obviously understand what the money is being used for.
