I have an Italian exchange student staying with me for a few weeks. Today, in conversation, when we overheard yet another conversation about Jesus in a book store, he commented on how different religion was in the USA and Europe. As he put it "In Europe, Christians want to be left alone. In America, they want to be in charge."

Having been to Europe a few times, I have to agree with him. Although I do think it's a fairly recent development in American Christianity.

Do you agree? Why do you think these differences have taken place? What allows them to flourish?

My boyfriend and i are engaged for 6 months, i am french and he is pakistani, we live in Ireland and everything between us was perfectly normal until his brother in pakistan told him that his parents will never accept me as their daughter in Law..Since then, he is distant, and he only sees an end to our relationship...
From his side it's the wind of change in the immigration laws which lately have made it impossible for him to stay after his studies...

I just feel helpless at the minute, and if any pakistani or european could help me to see clearer..If anyone knows what we could do ..Any advice, any help and understanding are greatly welcome

Curiosity and the first preseason Steelers game sparked this question, because it reminded me of Steelers coverage VS Penguins coverage here in Pittsburgh.

For example: The Penguins are in Round 1 of the frickin' Stanley Cup playoffs last season and are mentioned on the news only AFTER random tidbits about the Steelers, who were obviously not playing anymore. It's frustrating. I mean, I'm a Steelers fan... but I'm not like the Pittsburghers who are notoriously gay for the Steelers.

Starting this summer though, I do see a ray of hope with Pittsburgh's two biggest newspapers putting the Penguins before the Pirates, (who always suck) FINALLY:

I bought a linksys router, wireless LAN 4 port broadband, I configurated it at home (my brother did) at home everyone could get connected easily but I brought it to my apartment (college) and I'm the only one who can get internet! All my friends have problems with it how can I make it happen? Should I change the IP address? My IP ends up with 34, which one is the next number?

Last night my fiance and I were a buzzed after drinking a bunch of wine. We had a great weekend. Then things got wierd. He was jokingly pulling me on his lap, and I jokingly took his nose b/t my fingers and plugged it up. when I did that he got mad and in retaliation punched me on my skull - not too hard but hard enough. Long story short I threw a frisbee at him again semi-jokingly and it hit him on the face. he got really mad and got the frisbee and starting throwing it at me continuously with all his might. Then he started saying we were done. I know he didn't mean that. But I've never been in an abusive relationship and don't want to be now. Was he overreacting cuz he was drunk? Its my fault too because i have hit him on the leg once when I was mad and this started this whole wierd cycle where he hits back. Should I cancel our wedding and end it or talk to him?

I am translating a travelogue written in German into English. Although I could translate the various parts of this compound-word name into English, it would not necessarily be the same as the English term. By the way, the name needs to be British English if there are differing terms in British and American English. Thank you so much. Google was no help in this situation. The author also says it is one of the 17 most poisonous snakes in the world.

i was in a grocery store and a police told me to come outside, he told me in front of the store that i matched a suspect that robbed a walmart that was across the street.i had to wait till the manager of the walmart came and said i wasnt the suspect, is this standard procedure?

Why do they just assume a church is spending all their money on this stuff? Churches use that stuff to bring people INTO the church to hear a message that might change their lives. Sure, some go overboard and only care about money, but is bringing modern aspects into the church really a bad idea, assuming they don't go against God's word?

I attend a large church where people would not be able to see, hear, or even stand in the sanctuary if it weren't for this type of stuff. I mean face it, human nature is drawn to things we like and are comfortable, would most people go to a church where they had to stand the entire time or could barely hear the preacher? Of course not. Is it shallow, yes, but that's how humans are. Is it too naive to think some churches actually use these as tools to reach out to people? Just because big screens, sound systems, and drums aren't overtly Christian doesn't make them wrong.

I have been married for 17 years. I work from home and my wife works downtown. Because I work from home, over time almost all of the household chores and maintenance have defaulted to me.

Let me explain... I spend twice as much time caring for the kids. I make the 90% of our meals, including weekends. I do 90% of the laundry, 80% of the general cleaning, and 60% of kitchen cleaning/dishes. All of the general maintenance on our house (repairs, painting, mowing, landscaping, etc) also falls on me.

She does take a lead in a few things, such as our social calendar, setting up doctors' appointments, and school issues. But that is about it.

She refuses to see the inequality or uses her job/commute or her health as an excuse. She gets defensive and I look like the bad guy. If she acknowledges the problem at all, it 'gets better' for a week or so, and then back to normal.

Any advice?

For example, I'm sharing a folder and my friend is sharing his drive on the network. His drive is infected with a running virus - the virus sees my folder - then copies itself to my folder...can it then be automatically run and then infect my machine as well without my knowledge?
