I bought a linksys router, wireless LAN 4 port broadband, I configurated it at home (my brother did) at home everyone could get connected easily but I brought it to my apartment (college) and I'm the only one who can get internet! All my friends have problems with it how can I make it happen? Should I change the IP address? My IP ends up with 34, which one is the next number?

You probably have security encryption enabled on your wireless router. You will have to find out what kind encryption it is (WEP, WPA, WPA2,...) and what is the key. Give this information to your friends to connect.

Can the others see your router when the view available wireless connections?
If so they you most likely have some sort of WEP key that was set on the other systems at your home.
I wold recommend this.
1. Look on the manufacturers website and see what documentation is available.
2. Reset the router to the original configurations (usually a small hole in the backside that can be accessed by a paperclip).
3. Turn the SSID beacon ON
4. Have all people connect that you want to have access.
5. Use MAC filtering to restrict who can and cannot use the wireless.
You will have to research your make/model at the manufactures website, but this is very simple and usually well documented.

Without knowing on the router is set up. I can only guess.

Have them trying running the Wireless Wizard in the Control Panel of their PCs. If there is a password for the network they will have to enter it the first time they use the network.

After that, if they are still not getting on, check to see if they are getting an IP address from your router. If not, check that DHCP is enabled on the router.

It all depends on the how your brother set it up. He may have set specific IPs to each of the initially configured PCs. You could try to factory reset the router so its DHCP functionality takes over automatically. If you have time, going thru the user manual would definitely help.

the finest concern to do could be to purchase a inexpensive community linked storage (NAS) gadget. I actual have a Buffalo LinkStation which suits o.k.. this could be linked directly to the router, and each and all of the computers can then shop their records to it. they're approximately £one hundred thirty.
