The head of US forces in Iraq, Lt Gen David Petraeus, has told the BBC that fighting the insurgency is a "long term endeavour" which could take decades.
Speaking to the BBC's John Simpson in Baquba, Gen Petraeus said there was evidence that the recent troops surge was producing gains on the ground. But he warned that US forces were engaged in a "tough fight" which will get "harder before it gets easier". His comments come as US calls for a rapid troop withdrawal gather strength.
Gen Petraeus was keen to emphasise that the ongoing unrest in Iraq is not something he expects to be resolved overnight. "Northern Ireland, I think, taught you that very well. My counterparts in your [British] forces really understand this kind of operation... It took a long time, decades," he said. "I don't know whether this will be decades, but the average counter insurgency is somewhere around a nine or a 10 year endeavour."
He went on to say that more important than the length of time it would take to stabilise Iraq was the number of US troops which would be required to remain in the country. "I think the question is at what level... and really, the question is how can we gradually reduce our forces so we reduce the strain on the army, on the nation and so forth," he said.
He said everyone wanted the US forces to be able to leave, both Americans and Iraqis alike, but he said it was vital to ensure that "the gains that have been hard fought in places like Baquba and Ramadi could be sustained, maintained and even built on by Iraqi forces and Iraqi political leaders". In the last few weeks US forces have captured two big insurgent centres, Ramadi and Baquba, which was the main stronghold of al-Qaeda.

Thanks in advance!

Hi. Long story short, after a year of trying, Lamictal is just not for me.
Starting at 100 mgs, I've tapered down 25 mgs every 5 days. After my third day now at 25, my vision is blurry and I just feel really "blah". Anyone else have this?
I don't feel it's severe enough to call my doc, just wondered about others' experiences.
Thank you :)

I am a single Mom who filed for child support for my 14yr. old daughter 3 months ago. She has never recieved support and I haven't seen her Dad in 8yrs. I don't know where he lives. CSE, in our state, found his last known address. We were then scheduled to take DNA tests seperatley. We took ours, then two months later I found out he didn't show for his and all correspondence was sent back to CSE. They said he probably didn't live there anymore and they couldn't do anything without a current address. So now it's up to me. I don't even know where to start. Any advice?

Since methane is a hydrocarbon, and fuels used in internal combustion engines are made up of hydrocarbons, would it be possible to use methane as a fuel for an internal combustion engine? I am unsure about this, and wanted to get in touch with someone who would know about this.

No confluence to the last one. But hey, I'm no expert. I just make these up on the spot, no drafts.

My eyes are worn with the tears of strangers
I look out upon my world with despiration
We are blind to the problems of the past
On this ride of life, locked in repetition

The world is in turmoil
And for what?
They say peace
Forget that

The blood of young men cannot cure us

Give youth the reins
We have a mind and you will see
A world of "freedom" and "liberty"

oops, my rhyming is off... oh well.

I have an oppurtunity to purchase a used Dan Wesson 44mag, 6", w/ scope for $450.

Is this a good deal?? The pistol apears to be in great shape. No physical defects. I'm more worried about the gun being able to handle HEAVY 44 mag loads. I don't know much about Dan Wesson Pistols.

Thanks!!

Ok…so this way cool guy in the office has a total crush on me…he makes it clear and his boss always jokes around with me about it…he knows I have a boyfriend and when he comes to say hi (which I don’t mind) I know he sees the huge picture in a frame on my desk of me and my boyfriend…but he still make the most awkward comments…AHHHH!!!!! He told me “I wouldn’t put you in an uncomfortable situation”…but the comments are crazy.

I know he wouldn’t act on anything…that’s not in question…but should I just ignore the comments or what???
