I have an oppurtunity to purchase a used Dan Wesson 44mag, 6", w/ scope for $450.

Is this a good deal?? The pistol apears to be in great shape. No physical defects. I'm more worried about the gun being able to handle HEAVY 44 mag loads. I don't know much about Dan Wesson Pistols.

Thanks!!

Get it while it's available. DW revolvers in the 70s were comparable to Colt's in the accuracy department. A DW .44 is a lot more durable than a SW model. I put DW right below Ruger in stoutness.

My question to you is weather or not it is a TRUE D/W Arms made in the USA and not one of those newer CZ Dan Wesson revolvers. I really don't know much about the new one but, I do still own my 1st D/W 44VH and I paid $325+ tax back in 1980 with a 6" barrel. Since then I have purchased a 10" VH, 4" VH and a 8" VH. I have also mounted a Burris 1.5 scope on the 8". A good friend of mine purchased his SS 44 with a 10" barrel in 1984 and still owns it today. Every magazine I purchased back in those days claimed they are the BEST revolver out of the box.

I had a Dan Wesson probably about 20-25 years ago. It was well made and very accurate.

I am not a pro-shot but was able to hit a beer can at 100 measured yards on the sixth shot. It was a six inch barrel. Their accuracy came from being able to "tighten" the barrel at 2 points.

( Granted I was using 38 hand-load wad-cutters and had to "walk them " up to the target but the gun could shoot better than I could hold it.)

Nowadays, I can barely see well enough to drive.

Dan Wesson pistols used to be manufactuared very well. A bunch of them were also used in competition. I love them myself and would not balk at the offer, just the same; try to get it for cheaper. Youll love it if it is well taken care of.
