do you think the world is getting nastier, scarier, more violent, overall a worse and worse place every day...or it is because of our huge media in every corner of the world that we just hear about it more than in bygone years? is it because as we get older, we've just stored these awful things and every new thing makes it seem worse and worse?
hate to be negative on friday, but seriously!! what is it?

Is anyone familiar with creating graphs with Excel?
I have a formula that I want to input into Excel Here is the formula
Total Costs=Variable Costs + Fixed Costs
C(x)=mx+y
where x represents the number of items produced, m represents the cost to produce each item, and y represents the fixed costs

My x values will be changing, because I must show how the graph will change with low numbers and high numbers substituted for x.
I want to have Excel figure out the y values, but I don't know what to type in the fx box for it to work this formula.
Thanks!

Orion's recent experience, and the answers his posts about it generated, got me thinking . . . how do you view Deity? As a Folkish hard polytheist, I tend to think that ALL the god/desses are literally real, but that they are "of their people" and only really involved with the descendants of their originating cultures---I like to say that yes, our godhs are archetypes . . . but the archetypes came LATER. :-)

What are YOUR beliefs? Is/are there:

1. One Source, many facets, expressions, or understandings.
2. A duotheistic godhead consisting of a God & Goddess, known through many "aspects.".
3. One pantheon known by different names, stories, and attributes in many different cultures.
4. As many pantheons as there are cultures, with different godh/esses for each "Folk."
5. Archetypes, psychological projections, and/or primitive beliefs which teach the *values* of early cultures, not the literal existence of deities.
6. Other (explain)

Respectful answers only please!

In the most respectful of ways for those who are of other (or no) faith(s), this is for LDS people.

Our gospel doctrine manual states that the words of the prophets and apostles, when speaking in a talk, are considered scripture, that the angels in heaven record them in books, and that we will be judged out of those books. I'm just curious to see what other LDS people think to see if maybe someone has insight that I haven't considered.

So my question is:

How should we interpret this?

A: Everything the Prophet/Apostles say is scripture

B: General Conference talks are scripture, but not other talks

C: Only talks that are published by the Church in official publications are scripture

D: Prophets and Apostles have their right to their own opinions, but will let us know when they are speaking doctrine by doing so "In the name of the Lord"

E: The Standard Works are the only scripture, period. The Gospel Doctrine manual isn't scripture anyway, so it could be wrong.

Please explain :)

What do you think Earth's future is? Star Trek TNG-like (utopistic with no money, little to no crime whatsoever (but still penal colonies for those who do), and a peaceful relations with most alien cultures)? Or Andromeda like (Earth is at war with many an alien species and crime is rampant)? I mean by the year 2350, which is (roughly) when TNG takes place. Will we have warp drive (In Star Trek, warp drive was invented in 2063 by Zephrine Cochrane)? Will we have met alien cultures even (in Star Trek, the same year warp drive was invented was the FIRST first contact (Vulcans))? Will we have the most powerful armada of ships? Or will we mostly be operating peaceful mission like the Enterprise? Give your take!
