The tax-free status for churches dates back to the days when communities were settled and churches built by congregations of which everyone was member, The church collected money (taxes?) pew fees etc. from all and ran the community being essentially the local government, police and tax-collecting entity.

All that changed dramatically long ago. Now governments govern all people of all faiths and persuasions. They collect taxes and provide services..

So why hasn't the tax code changed?

The "separation of church and state" is certainly not the answer because this tax exemption is rather a separate and special distinctive treatment of religions by the government..

This is an extension to the question I asked about why the universe is such a big achievement

Some of the answers are basically annoyed that I asked the question, they say I shouldnt question things I dont understand or that I should 'just pray to God'

So do these people think that people shouldnt be educated? Education is based on asking and answering questions to further knowledge. Should children just accept that things are as they are? Should they 'just pray to God'?

For those who gave me those answers: Do you honestly believe this or is it that you cant understand my point?

He said Hilton's return home gave the impression of "celebrity justice being handed out".

I think personally she should go back in and start her sentence from the beguning... she deserves the same punishment that we would recieve... being a Celebrity shouldn't make a difference after all she is a human being like the rest of us!!!!

I have a 92 Mercury Sable, with messed up overheating issues. I can start it up and leave it run for hours on end and it will run at normal temp, but when I get out on the road it overheats in a few seconds. I replaced all the hoses, thermastat, radiator cap, drained, flushed, and refilled the system. What else should I look for or try? I need to get this car running and out or my garage, I got other toys to play with!

I have an appointment with my surgeon for next week Saturday (first appointment available) but I think that I might need help before then. I have a hernia that I believe to be incarcerated. I have had overwhelming nausea several days ago that subsided along with constipation for the past week. This morning I woke up again with the severe nausea. I was just wondering if anyone knew how much a visit to the hospital would cost me and if also if possible anyone knows how much emergency surgery would cost.

I don't feel that I have good conversation skills. I'm okay one on one with people, but I'm usually quiet in groups. I know people (as friends or colleagues) who are worth many millions and yet very few of them have real friends. It always seems that they will always put the value of friendship aside if they can earn some more money from the situation. I am aware that I will never be that wealthy because I do have scruples and would never let friends down or take advantage of them.

i know i eat far too much and dont take enough exercise but i am only 8 stone and 5 foot 7!

i have two breakfasts eg 2x toast and cereal then for snacks pies crisps about 8 chocolate bars a day and its not only bad stuff i eat i have usually 7 portions of fruit and veg a day and have a healthy diet with unhelthy stuff on top too!

i have luch then another large meal around 3 then dinner at 6 and loads of snacks and bowls of cereal then supper which is usually soup and a bread roll

i eat about 3500 calories sometimes more a day and i rarely exercise i am not lazy but i never do stuctured exercise.

i defiantly dont have worms or any disorder as i visited my gp.

i am afraid if i change my diet or exercise more i will lose weight from my already very thin frame which may make me ill.

please please help what is going on?
