I have a 92 Mercury Sable, with messed up overheating issues. I can start it up and leave it run for hours on end and it will run at normal temp, but when I get out on the road it overheats in a few seconds. I replaced all the hoses, thermastat, radiator cap, drained, flushed, and refilled the system. What else should I look for or try? I need to get this car running and out or my garage, I got other toys to play with!

cylinder head seal. Is it really overheating or just showing too much heat in the thing on the dashboard? I had this problem once with a car - temperature was OK and suddenly the needle jumped to 120 degrees (Celsius) but the actual water temperature was still OK.

something is not right here, when you say it overheats, what does it actually do ?? does the guage suddenly go to red, or slowly, also does anything else happen, does it boil over at all, ie any physical occurances...
a clue, if it goes hot on the guage in a couple of mins, it means the gauge is ok and the car has got problems (overheating) if the gauge get hot (or cold) very quickly (a couple of seconds) then the gauge or sender is faulty - not the car..also when you run in in the garage, do you get hot air ? if you do there is nothing wrong with the pipework/engine and you can safely take it out of the garage to play with your other toys...
dont want to be harsh here, but maybe you should learn some basic mechanics before you buy anymore toys..

You need to check this engine for a cracked head, blown head gasket or cracked block. Sounds like you may be getting combustion into the cooling system. It is usually a blown head gasket. You can get a kit at the auto parts store with instructions. It will test the coolant to see if there is combustion present. Good luck on your mission.
