For the most part, all the sources I have come across blankly state that the unpaired t-test assumes equal variances among the two groups, and that the data has a normal distribution.

Now, some sources go further and state that the t-test should not be used for small sample sizes ( < 8), but that parametric tests should be used instead (specifically Mann Whitney U test). The sources continue to say that the sensitivity to the normality assumption is valid up to 40 samples, where after it's not really that sensitive. I haven't been able to confirm this (the 40 samples) from any other sources. Could anyone confirm this statement?

I know the central limit theorem (CLT) maintains that samples larger than 30 start approximating the normal curve. However, performing the Anderson-Darling test on over 100 samples still confirm that the data is non-normal. Will performing an unpaired t-test on these "guaranteed" non-normal data still be valid? Do people just blindly apply the CLT assumption?

i ve just completed my 12 class and now i ve to appear for engineering exams, but i have not prep. for that (as my brother did), as i wanted to drop this year so i could prepare for IIT.(thats why i want to go for coaching classes in KOTA).
my brother is doing his engineering from a M.D.U. college which is not thought to be as good as IIT or BITS or manipal,but he has got a package of 320000 from INFOSYS.
and one of my friend has gat the same package from the same firm but he has done his engineering from ITM GURGAON.(A GOOD ONE)
NOW I THINK THAT IF I GET A REALLY REALLY GOOD COLLEGE THEN IT WONT MATTER.
BUT IF I CLEAR IIT EXAM IT WILL SURELY ,GOIN TO CHANGE MY LIFE. AM I RIGHT

my boyfriend used to be a pretty big partier, before we got together he used to do weed and drink alot! but since weve been together hes laid off alot for me. weve been together 9 months and i love him with my whole heart, i just lost a grandfather to smoking and recently my boyfriend has been smoking cigarettes alot, i used to do some light smoking but i quit for my grandpa, he asked us all to not do it before he died and my boyfriend told him he wouldnt but he still does, he promises me that he's going to quit but i dont see it happening, i really worry about his health, he says it gets hard to breath when mowing already and were only 16. it cant be good for him to already be like that, i want to tell him to quit but i dont want to seem like a controlling girlfriend, so how do i tell him?!

My bf thinks this.. One of his friends said he liked me, but then said it was all a joke, and the next day he said he like me again, i told him it wasnt funny anymore and he went away.
