When Ella was a baby Lucinda, a fairy, gave her the “gift” of obedience. That was a problem in Ella’s life. She had to obey every command. One day her stepsister, Hattie found out. Hattie used it against her a lot. One time Ella had her mother’s necklace on to remember her from her death. Hattie demanded she would get to keep, for she was older and looked better in it than Ella. Ella had to obey.
When Ella met Prince Charmont he fell in love with Ella. Prince Charmont loved the way she made him laugh like her mother did. Hattie was very jealous of them and every time Char came to see Ella she would demand Ella to stay in her room. Char thought Ella was ignoring him and eventually gave up. Ella wished she could tell Char, but she could put him in jeopardy, such as someone where to tell her to kill him.
Ella asked Lucinda to reverse the spell. Lucinda changed and realized what her gifts had done and would not do big magic anymore. Ella was on her own trying to figure out how to break the spell.
At last Ella broke the spell when Char asked her to marry him and Ella said no! The Spell was broken! She then told him yes. They got married and Ella did not want to be called Princess or Queen, Linguist would do just fine. (For every language there was she knew it.)
This story explains how you should do what you want to do and should not be controlled by someone as if you were a puppet. I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it. There are a lot of differences between the book and the movie. The movie has more detail than this book.
