Break the statements into two parts and rewrite them. Their meaning should become readily apparent to you. The statement itself is comparing the first to the latter:

1) You cannot do what you don't know how. (In order to do something, you must know how to do it. ~or~ If you don't know how to do something, then you cannot do that something.)

2) You cannot return from a place you have never been. (Being able to return from a place requires that you have been there. ~or~ If you have not been to a place, you cannot return from there.)

You can go somewhere you've never been, but you can't go "back" there, because that implies that you have been there before.

You can't do something if you don't know how to do it. You can learn how to do it in the process of attempting, but once you've done it, it will be becuase you know how to do it.

:)

why would you need to come back from somewhere if you've never been there? if you don't know how to do something then you learn how to but untill you know how then the only way yo ucan accomplish it is by sheer luck.

A sidebar adage would be "The Blind leading the blind"

You have to have some degree of knowledge before you do something

Nonsense. For while you can always learn to do what you now
are not able to, you will never be able to return from somewhere you have not been ,by definition.
