I'm confused. If you're really trying to do a job search, you've asked this in the wrong place. If this is part of a stat final, then were you given some data about the effectiveness of these methods? If not, what are you supposed to base this on? The best method is actually a combination of the methods you've described. Use the internet to find company webpages and job postings. Apply for the postings, but also make cold calls to companies that don't have listings. Once you've begun an interview process, use networking to determine if you have any contacts already employed at that company, and use them in whatever ways possible.
