Screw that! Leyland doesn't need a steroid controversy! Bonds is only a decent player (he's hurt a lot, and his batters eye is not what it was with the 'cream' and the 'clear') now and is not really worth anything more than a 1 or 2 yr contract. I'm sure the Yanks are looking to pick up his dump-truck of a contract, but I don't think the Tigers are that stupid.
Besides, the Tigers have a stud of a team right now and it's still young - no need to add a relic to the lineup, that has a huge contract, an ego problem and won't pack any more butts in the stadium - in fact it may lose some attendance if they acquire him.

Not a chance ! I'm from Pittsburgh and Leyland and Bonds cannot coexist. Bonds had a major meltdown with Leyland at spring training in 91. It was classic. Leyland told him, and I quote " I kissed your *** for 3 years, if you don't want to be here then get your *** off the field". The local news media had it on tape and the sports show here aired it daily. They do not like each other period!

If he does sign with the different team different than the Giants, an American League team makes the main experience by way of fact he can DH. yet i don't see him with the Angels. at first, the Angels have a great genuine-field wall that may not Barry Bonds-friendly. 2d, will Bonds extremely bypass everywhere the place he's gonna get booed by using their followers? The Angels are a logical selection for Bonds to bypass if he does flow everywhere, however the Giants followers are the only ones who're on his edge. i don't think of Bonds needs to furnish all that up just to be booed 162 video games a season, 80 one on the line AND 80 one at domicile.

Hmmm, let's assess this one.
The Tigers have a team with a lot of young, impressionable players, who to this point have been taught how to play the game right - hard, and as a team. No one player is more important than the next. Oh, and by the way, they have as good a chance as any to win the world series this year.
Let's bring a guy who has become the icon of steroids/cheating, who demanded with his last contract that he had a SEPARATE locker room with added amenities built just for him in SF (which is still there to this day), who makes his own decision about what days he will play, and which he'd rather not, and who is widely hated by most of America.
Yeah.... sounds like a great idea.

If we are talking about team chemistry issues, Bonds is a beaker of Sulfuric Acid (very nasty stuff, do not touch). I think we have learned that while the term "Team Chemistry" may be overused to the point of it being a cliche, a lot can be said for having a clubhouse of guys who get along and have a positive relationship with the media.
Bonds proved that he is still worthy of a major league roster spot in terms of his ability, but the Tigers do not need the circus that will follow Bonds next year.

NOPE. Bond's is the big draw in SF and they have a new stadium they are still paying for. This with the fact that Bonds may pass Aaron somewhere in the next 2 years guarantees that the Giants will offer him HUGE cash to stay and keep filling the stadium with fans ($$$).

Barry Bonds willbe playing in San Francisco next year, he will break the record and retire in San Francisco, he is thier biggest draw. People fill up that ball park every game just to see him hit a home run. There is no way he leaves, he fills the stadium.

Oh God, that is just plain crazy!
NO WAY DOES THAT HAPPEN!
In case you are not aware, JIm Leyland went off on Barry Bonds one spring training (got right in his face and told him off big time!) about how if he wasnt going to be a "team player" he could leave now.
Besides Dombrowski is trying to build a winning team, not a whinny one!!!

bond's contract is up, but I'm hoping that he'll resign with the Giants cuz I'm a Giants fan and would like to see him snap Aaron's record as a Giant. But, he would do better as a DH in the American league, though! If that does happen, I don't really care what team he goes to, as long as its not the Yankees.
