We are traveling to Seattle during Christmas with my two boys who are 10 and 7. This will be their first time in a cold climate as we are south Floridians, so I am excited to show them a new terrain and let them experience the cold climate. I understand there is not much snow there and I will have to travel a bit to let them have a true white world experience. Any suggestions as to which way to head to see true snow and how long the drive is? Also, need some ideas for siteseeing in Seattle. Any fun activities for kids? How about the monorail and the space needle? Just looking for some ways to spend our week, any input would be greatly appreciated! The tourism sites are helpful, but I figured the locals would know the best! P.S. Is it true the first Starbucks is in Seattle?

I am looking to move to the Pacific northwest and my big choices are Seattle and Portland. Now I love to snowboard and Ski as well as Scuba dive and I live for music, mostly jam bands as well as jazz and funk and much more. I would like to hear from people who actually have reasons please and state those reasons.

Ever notice that in the Seattle area as soon as it gets cold enough to snow the sky is COMPLETELY clear and devoid of any clouds that might grant us some pretty snowflakes? I mean if it's gonna drop down to 29 degrees ya think Mother Nature would at least give us some flakes, eh?

A friend of mine and I are dying to move and we've chosen Seattle as our next home while right now we live in North Carolina. My question is: How would I go about securing a job and apartment in Seattle(we really want to live IN the city) while I'm here in North Carolina?

no more than an hour or so away from the Seattle area, very safe (low crime rate),affordable. An area with more trees and dirt than houses and concrete. I've looked into Sammamish, anyone from there? Let me know of specific towns/areas.Thank you!

Is there anything to do with trains or toy trains? We will be coming there from Chicago by Amtrak. What is a good mode of transportation? we will only be there 2 days and will only be downtown. Thanks.

Are Portland people friendlier? Is Portland changing for the worse with all the newer people moving there? Is Portland too limited in its growth potential? Is its pub. transit better?

I am a hispanic woman wanting to relocate with my 3 kids to Seattle, however, ppl here in Texas are telling me that it would not be a wise decision b/c there are not many hispanics there and I would be a target for racism. Does anyone know if it is true? If not, is there a certain part of town that maybe has more hispanics?

A co-worker is moving to Seattle soon. For her going away party, our boss thought that giving her umbrellas (b/c of all the rain there) would be funny, yet useful. I was just wondering if anybody out there is Y!A land knows of any other useful gifts to give somebody moving to Seattle. I doubt she needs 11 umbrellas.

I am new to Seattle from Chicago, IL and I'm just wondering what there is to do for Christmas. Do any stores downtown do window displays? Are there carriage rides in the city (we really wanna do this, so that'd be great if there were!)? This is our first Christmas away from home and we can't go home this year, so I'm trying to find things similar to ease the homesickness. My boyfriend and I are thinking of Christmas dinner at the Space Needle. Any other suggestions for things to do after that??? Thanks!!!!!!

We are thinking of moving to Seattle from the eastside of Washington. Just wondering where is the best place to live outside of Seattle? The safest, least expensive, etc. I was looking at Craigslist and rent is crazy over there. My house payment here is only $900 so Im worried we wont be able to afford to live there.

My guys work is based in Bellevue but his work is all over the place. So we were thinking of Kent or somewhere that would be cheaper to live but still nice and safe.

Thanks for all the info!!!

Why are homes in seattle so expensive?
Is it because of all the microsoft employees. Making too much money?

This will be my first time taking the kids out for trick or treating. I heard that some malls might be worth going to.

Where are the best places in WA to go? (around the Seattle or north of Seattle area)

Thanks!
