Ever notice that in the Seattle area as soon as it gets cold enough to snow the sky is COMPLETELY clear and devoid of any clouds that might grant us some pretty snowflakes? I mean if it's gonna drop down to 29 degrees ya think Mother Nature would at least give us some flakes, eh?

I telecommute so I wouldn't have to drive in it :) I saw that, too, about next Thu/Fri!

The clouds are why it is warm. Clouds hold in the heat. When there are no clouds, the temperature almost always drops, since they aren't there holding in the warmth (relative warmth). Since Seattle is so mild, it is rarely cold enough to snow. So the difference between clouds and no clouds is 35 degrees to 30 degrees, so the clouds don't let it snow most of the time. Other cities are much colder, so the clouds don't let it warm up enough to not snow.

In Seattle we have the blessing or curse (depending on your point of view) of the Puget Sound. The sea water in the Sound moderates the air temperature in the surrounding lowlands. Also, in the winter most of our rainclouds come from the tropics and our clear cold air masses come from the arctic. We typically get snow in a transition between the two.

Try living in OK - it is supposed to snow this weekend. It has been 24-26 at night and Sat it will be 30 with snow. I am soo looking forward to moving into my new house so that I can park my truck in the garage and not having to go outside and scrape it off/warm it up before I can go to work.

I used to gripe about no snow in Seattle until I moved to Renton Highlands 4 years ago. We've had snow every winter since! I think the difference is just whether you're on the water or 400' above. But I agree with you...let it snow! Let it snow! Let it snow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

cloud cover keeps some of the warmth in.
When the sky is clear ,it gets colder.
No clouds=no snow
It has snowed the last three winters.
