Maybe this can help your decision ....

Seattle:
1) Seattle's worst months, in terms of weather, is generally from November-March (a total of five months). The best months, where the temperature is between 60-80 degrees, is April-October.

2) Phoenix has nice weather in the winter --- but can you do anything longterm outside in the summer within 110 degree heat (May-Sept)?

With a 95k job, you can:
1) Buy a home in the Seattle area (how big of a house do you want or really need?)
2) Use that extra $20,000 to go on vacations to Phoenix during the crummy weather months
3) Washington State has no state income tax!

With a 70k job, you are:
1) Limited to the hot heat of Phoenix day in-day out
2) Your paycheck is subject to Arizona State Income Tax.

I'd say Seattle. $95k will do you all right here in Seattle and the housing market is settling down a little and a lot more houses are sitting on the market unsold, so things are looking up for potential buyers. The weather here is also not really depressing all the time. The winters are pretty bleak, especially when it's just raining and cloudy, instead of snow, which seems to lighten things up a bit, but on the flipside, the summers here are amazingly beautiful and really something worth dealing with the winters for!

I would go with the 95K a year. For one, I live here in Seattle and can definitely tell you the weather isn't always depressing. Goodness, it is sunny right now and should be for the next couple of days....just a little colder. And your electric bill is only going to be expensive in the winter due to heating, if you live in a fairly modern building you won't have to pay for cooling in the summer because it will always be cool. And as for the living costs.....You can live very comfortably here for $95k a year. I live extremely comfortably with a bunch of extra cash making only $25k a year....And I only have one roomate and am ten minutes from the downtown area so it is all about which part of seattle you live in. Plus, I guarantee there is way more to do here!

Id take the 95k and get some room mates so the rent is cheaper and save up some money. Plus Seattle has four seasons and friendly people. Phoenix doesnt. If you really look into it you can find some pretty affordable places in Seattle. You can try craigs list Seattle.

Well since you're already anti-Seattle move to Phoenix. FYI - we're not even in the top FORTY rainiest places in the US. Phoenix weather is great? Sure if you like 100 degrees! And so what if your house is cheap if you're in a boring area. Is that what's important?

If you really make that kind of money why'd you post about your car being repossessed and wanting to find another one under $5K?

You did not say what you like to do outside of work. Seattle is a cultural city with theater, restaurants, skiing, hiking, sports, universities, waterfront, mountains, all around.

Good luck with either place, it is probably more important that you like the job and the people you are working with, rather than how much money it is paying.

Seattle isn't depressing in the least. I think the heat of Phoenix is more damning.

I'd go for Phoenix. Sounds like happier weather.
