As others have mentioned, this is in Pioneer Square. this is a mostly business/industrial area of town, with a high concentration of nightclubs, and homeless people.

There are upscale condos in that area - mostly the upper floors of old buildings converted for that use. But there is no grocery store, no schools, not even a drug store if I remember correctly.

As a woman, I would not be comfortable walking through that area by myself after dark. And it gets dark before 5 PM these days.

If you are looking at that area because of a "for rent" ad that seems too good to be true, it probably is exactly that.

Overall Seattle is a pretty safe area. We have a higher percentage of property crime (car prowls and the like), and a much lower rate of bodily crime (murder, rape etc.). So if you will have a car, find a place to park it that is secured where you live. Anyone who leaves their car on the streets will get a window bashed in eventually....

If you are looking for a place with some "history", then I suggest looking on Capitol Hill and First Hill.

It looks like you want to be close to downtown...kudos to you, but I wouldn't live in Pioneer Square. There are a lot of homeless people there, and a lot of loudmouth drunks that all leave the bars when they close at 2am. Also a lot of loudmouth drunks after every Mariners and Seahawks game.
If you really want to stay close to downtown, look for a place in First Hill, Capitol Hill, or Eastlake. Slightly farther away from downtown but still totally accessible by bus are Greenlake, Wallingford, Ravenna or Ballard. Search for a place in these neighborhoods and I think you'll be a lot happier than if you are in Pioneer Square. Good luck!

That part of the city is more industrial and Pioneer Sqaure is full of wino's and bums.

I'd recommend you look into Queen Ann, Wallingford, Greenlake and Freemont areas. These are north of downtown, with vibrant neighborhoods. Lots of beautiful older homes, built in the 30's and 40's, some with fantastic views.

No, you probably don't want to live in Pioneer Square. Seattle is a very safe city but this neighborhood is full of bars and nightclubs and has a large homeless population. It's not really an ideal residential neighborhood.

That's not a good area of Seattle in which to live; it's mostly industrial. I'd try for one of the outlying areas/suburbs, or look north of Seattle.

trust me, seattle is not the best place to live. my cousins live in seatle and they had there car stolen a few times. theres alot of homeless people and drug-dealers in the city. so unless you wanna have something stolen or run into a homless person or druggie, i suggest some place away form seatle.

If you want to be around a bunch of druggies, homeless people and gun play, then it's a good place to live.
