I am looking to move to the Pacific northwest and my big choices are Seattle and Portland. Now I love to snowboard and Ski as well as Scuba dive and I live for music, mostly jam bands as well as jazz and funk and much more. I would like to hear from people who actually have reasons please and state those reasons.

With those needs Seattle is your best bet. The Puget sounds has many scuba clubs and places for that. There is live music at any give day of the week. Whistler is a good weekend trip and Mt Raineer is a good after-work trip for skiing.

Portland is nice and well constructed. They have nearly all Seattle has but not at much it seems. Still a nice place.

Good luck

i look at it this way.

seattle is right on Puget Sound and near the Cascades (lots of scenery, and outdoor activities). Portland, however, is along the columbia river just in the middle of the forest.

you'll find a music scene in the downtown section of any major city. i'm not sure how that of the two cities compares, however

there's so much more to do in Seattle and the surrounding area than in Portland! there are more people, more things to do, and better coffee! however, Portland still has many great opportunities, fewer people (thus, fewer problems), and is not as directly on an earthquake fault as Seattle is. So I personally would recommend Seattle, but if you get there and find that it's everything you want but perhaps a little bit overwhelming, then Portland is a good option for you.

snowboarding and skiing you can do in the olymipcs or the cascades anyday- its like a 1-2 hour drive. it's jazz central downtown, and there's lots of jazz clubs. scuba diving; there are classes in seattle where you can take... like they have pools that are meant to be like oceans [they're reallyyy deep.] sometimes you get experience by taking a little field trip with your small classes to the puget sound. although the water may be frigid anytime except in the summer, it's still nice because you get to see all the saltwater aquatic life;; firsthand. Music? that's like seattle's middle name. we live for music too.

also... seattle is a more of an international city then portland. [lotsss of different races, lots of different languages, and lots of different way of doing things if you live in different places]

I would recommend Seattle. Not just becuase I live here, but because there is a lot more to do than in Portland. Both cities are equally great to live in but we have great skiing here and there is a big music scene as well. The scenery is also a plus.

With your interests, Seattle would be a better choice, but both have lots of what you like.
