I'm planning on making the move to Seattle from Los Angeles in the near future - namely because I need to have more greenery and down-to-earth people in my life. Are there any former Angelinos who have made the transistion? What are your thoughts?

FIrst of all a few details about myself: I'm a college educated, single, straight, 24-year-old male who enjoys running, reading, writing, outdoorsey activities, etc.

I grew up in a small town in Nebraska, went to school in Missouri and have lived in Los Angeles (and worked in the entertainment industry) for the past year and a half, but am now ready to get the heck out of the city and find a job that's a little more fulfilling.

A friend (he's of a similar age and background) and I have been discussing moving up to Seattle in June, and I was curious what the opinions on Yahoo were about the city.

Once again, remember that I'm looking for a city quite different from Los Angeles and one that suits my interests/needs/background a bit more. A large city with a small-town vibe.

Good idea to head north to Seattle, or is there somewhere better?

Thanks.

Can anyone who lives in downtown, or has had an excellent visit, tell me some fun things to do, in and around that area. I love the market and have been many times, but never stayed for days, so not really sure what else there is to do that is around there. I will be staying for some of the week days too, with my own car. Thanks everyone!

Im thinking about attending the university of washington in seattle.

all the negatives that ive heard about seattle is: it rains all the time, like 6 days a week. There are alot of poor people there. There are alot of drugs, especially meth addicts.

are all of these negatives true? and what are some positives?

I've heard that there are some neat cabins around Seattle, and my boyfriend and I would like to stay in one with our dog for a couple of days. Can anyone recommend one?

We don't mind driving a couple of hours from Seattle. We'd like to find a place that is dog-friendly. Any information you can give would be appreciated. For example, what activities are there to do near the cabins?

I'm going to Seattle with my boyfriend in March and I'll be spending my days alone while he's schmoozing with his computer geek buds at a conference. I've been reading that Alki beach is a must see place, but it seems to be closed for the season and the website doesn't say when it opens up again. I'm assuming that since the water taxis aren't running I'll have to take a bus. Is it worth the trip to get out there? I love wandering beaches even on cold days, but if I can't get in, I wouldn't want to waste my time on a bus.

This is kind of an odd question to phrase, but I'll try my best. Does anyone know of any good vantage points from which to see the city itself and/or surrounding areas (puget sound, the cascades/olympics)? Well known, or out-of-the-way? I'm looking for a possibly-romantic spot with an amazing view to to take my boyfriend to, perhaps for a picnic, a long walk, or just to hang out. Short hikes/scrambles and tricky-to-get-to places are fine, so long as they're actually in the city. The only places I can think of are from the top of the Space Needle, and Gasworks park. Any ideas?

How did you like it if you have lived in Seattle or how do you like it if you are living in Seattle? Other than job reason, any other reasons that make you stay in Seattle instead of moving to other states? I learned that Seattle rains a lot, is it depressing there?
