Where are you coming from? What kind of neighborhood are you looking for? Since I don't know, here's a snapshot of Capitol Hill:

The crime that another post mentioned is concentrated in certain areas, mainly where the apartment complexes are... more between Summit Ave & Boylston Ave. or in the Pike St./Pine St. area, around 10th Ave., where the bars are.

You might enjoy Broadway, a main street in Capitol Hill with Restaurants (upscale to take-out), teen clothing stores, consignment shops, a bead shop, Mud Bay (sells natural products for pets), used music/video stores, a large QFC grocery store, a liquor store, etc. However, you have to be prepared to see a lot of drug addicts, chronic homeless people, and some sub culture on Broadway. These people don't bother me, but some people are disconcerted by it.

Here's a good article on what Broadway is like: http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/local/186482_broadwaychanges16.html

Anyone who has a house near Volunteer Park can enjoy the beauty of the park. It's a charming residential area with quiet streets, and close proximity to any area of Seattle, as well as easy access to I-5 & 520. It's very family oriented.

There is a wonderful art school in Capitol Hill called Gage Academy. The school has gorgeous views of Lake Union; wonderful, dedicated teachers; a strong art program for youth, and boasts Gary Faigin as one of its founders.

A Capitol Hill resident can walk or drive to Lake Washington, jump in for a morning swim, and then walk to your favorite local coffee shop for your first cup of the morning.

It's a great life for the right people. It's not suburban; it's urban. It's eclectic: your kids might make friends with liberals, people of different religions, etc. Houses here, of course, are expensive. Count on $400,000 at least.

Here's the site on Volunteer Park.

Good luck with your decision.

Definitely not! I would not live there with children. West Seattle would be the best for a young family. Prices are reasonable, as long as you are not waterfront, or waterview. Plenty of rentals, if that is what you're looking for. I lived there when my children were small and we enjoyed it very much. A short 10 minute or so drive to downtown Seattle.
The West Seattle bridge at times was congested, but no biggie.

Good luck with your move. You will love the Seattle area!

I cannot tell you where to live in Seattle except that I would not live in the capitol hill area. Lots of crime in the area, not a good place for kids. Due to the high cost of rent and realestate most people are moving to the bedroom communities.

if you want more of a neighborhood feel instead of living in the city I would go to west seattle, but not toward white center more towards california ave. or arbor heights/arroyo heights are really great neighborhoods to raise children. West Seattle is where i have lived all my life the area's in West seattle I don't recommend is the Delridge area and White Center area. go for alki, admiral, california ave, arbor heights, arroyo heights, and some parts of the westwood area great places to raise a family.

and west seattle is like 10 minutes away from downtown seattle

Do not go to Capitol Hill - it is full of Yuppies and Hippies.
I recommend Magnolia, Laurelhurst, Wedgewood, the are around the Aboretum, Madison Park, Seward Park.

i could no longer stay in a house with 6 little ones myself and then 2 different adults. there is not any privateness like that. no longer purely that yet think of relating to the rigidity it could reason financially on you and your husband. Which then could carry approximately a strained relationship between all and sundry. i don't understand the factor your sister-in-regulation suggested some domicile sufficiently super for each individual lol. in the event that they have that form of money why do no longer they pass out lol...

Depends on what you are looking for. Parts of Capitol Hill are really nice neigborhoods. Queen Anne is also a really nice neighborhood. Wallingford and Freemont also.
