This is kind of an odd question to phrase, but I'll try my best. Does anyone know of any good vantage points from which to see the city itself and/or surrounding areas (puget sound, the cascades/olympics)? Well known, or out-of-the-way? I'm looking for a possibly-romantic spot with an amazing view to to take my boyfriend to, perhaps for a picnic, a long walk, or just to hang out. Short hikes/scrambles and tricky-to-get-to places are fine, so long as they're actually in the city. The only places I can think of are from the top of the Space Needle, and Gasworks park. Any ideas?

Washington Park Arboretum, Alki Point, Discovery Park, Drive up Queen Anne Hill along steep Queen Anne Avenue North to Highland Drive, turn left and follow it to Kerry Park, at Highland and Second Avenue West. Proceed west on Highland to Parsons Gardens, a minipark with a spectacular view of Puget Sound and the Olympics to the west.

There is a small city park on the north side of Queen Anne hill that has great views of Downtown. I am guessing that is at 2nd Ave W and Prospect.

Discovery Park in Magnolia has great views of Puget Sound. Take the hike down to the beach (about 1 to 1.5 miles from the parking lot). There are a few vistas on the way and once on the beach, there are great views.

Don't forget the free Observation Tower at Volunteer Park. Awesome views that compete with the not-so-free space needle

Drive to the Tacoma Narrows Bridge and take pictures of Mount Rainier.

Then keep driving to Gig Harbor, WA and go to TIDES TAVERN -- the best view/people/eatery in the State -- bar none.

Lot of people go to University of Washington during cherry blossom in spring to take pictures. And you can also get good shot of Mt Rainier from campus. Top of Safeco field also have good view out to water.
