I'm going to Seattle with my boyfriend in March and I'll be spending my days alone while he's schmoozing with his computer geek buds at a conference. I've been reading that Alki beach is a must see place, but it seems to be closed for the season and the website doesn't say when it opens up again. I'm assuming that since the water taxis aren't running I'll have to take a bus. Is it worth the trip to get out there? I love wandering beaches even on cold days, but if I can't get in, I wouldn't want to waste my time on a bus.

It's always open, it's a public park. You will have to take the bus, because you are right, the water taxi doesn't start running until at least April I think. It's totally worth the trip. The walking path is great, the view of the city is amazing, the view of the mountains is beautiful, there are great restuarants, bakeries, coffeeshops, etc., so you wouldn't be lacking in anything to do.

There are a few other beach parks I'd recommend as well, that you might also like. They are just parks though, with not many amenities around like Alki has.

Alki Beach is open all the time. It is not a private beach. There are some restaurant, cafeteria, fast food stores over there. You can stay in there and look outside. I am sure it still cold in March. Or you can wall along the beach. It looks very nice at night time because you can see the whole Seattle city across the water.

I've heard Alki beach is closed because it is kind of a population area. People live there, business is open there.
