New York City

I'm going to New York with my schools concert band (I'm in it) playing at the UN Headquarters Lobby and I'm not asking on where to go because that's already planned out (Broadway, Times Square, Empire State Building, Radio City, Metropolitan, Harlem, Cotton Club, Central Park.) What I'm asking is what are the secrets of New York? Are there any local customs or inside traditions (for example: when I went to Jamaica I learned a Jamaican hand shake, stuff like that), secrets about what would make a New Yorker proud and/or pissed off, secrets about the sites and basically any more secrets that you can give about New York.

I want to go to New York for a couple of days in my Spring break. Problem is, I don't have anyone to go with, so I figured I'll go alone. I've been there a couple of times before and I know the basic area of Manhattan.

I used to live in manhattan but moved to upstate new york when I got married, pregnent, and began my master's degree..

Now I am almost done with school, my baby is about to go to pre-school, I am getting job interviews in manhattan, and my husband is thinking to transfer to NYC...so we are going to move~~

But we don't want to raise our baby in manhattan...

we are thinking Westchester, NY or CT or NJ (hoboken?)

we can't afford million dollar houses...don't like too crazy high taxes....and we have to commute to manhattan...

we want house or townhouse or co-op around $500,000-$700,000 and great schools nearby and lively streets...

any recommendations?
