I want to go to New York for a couple of days in my Spring break. Problem is, I don't have anyone to go with, so I figured I'll go alone. I've been there a couple of times before and I know the basic area of Manhattan.
When I tell my friends about it, they think that I'm crazy going there alone, what with me being a young, short woman and all.

Do you think it is crazy for me to go alone?

You'll be fine in NYC. Just be smart about where you go by yourself. Don't hang around in certain parts of town (Chinatown at night, some parts of the Upper West Side). Where are you staying? Try to get a nice hotel in a good part of the city. Anything on the East Side would be nice as well as anything surrounding Central Park (although maybe not Central Park North). Times Square and Midtown East are all good areas to look in. Make sure that you look at your map before you leave the hotel so you don't stand out as a tourist. Dress like New Yorkers would dress and don't draw attention to yourself by dressing like a tourist. Above all, keep an eye on your surroundings at all time. Be observant and don't let taxi cab drivers know that you are a tourist.
All in all, NYC is a pretty safe city like all the other have said. Just use precaution and common sense.

Good Luck.

Not at all, my friend goes into the city all the time. Just be confident and stay out of trouble. Honestly, you should be fine as long as you know where you're going, and that goes for about everywhere.

No. Just be careful, don't walk around at night in secluded areas, because you could get mugged or something bad like that. But you should be fine.
