Hey, I'm a student coming over for an exchange programme, so I would like to ask, what is the sales tax in NYC

Also, are there certain periods where you have massive city wide sales etc.

Also are there any discounts for tourists/students?

Hey thanks for the advice. Greatly appreciate it. I guess nothing beats locals answering tourist questions.

On most holiday weekends, the bigger department stores will all have sales. (i.e. President's Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Thanksgiving, Christmas...etc..)

There is no longer tax on clothing items under $110.

If possible, sign up for a Student Advantage card before you arrive. They offer lots of good discounts for students, especially if you happen to be around the NYU area, or near one of the other colleges. The SA card also has good travel discounts.

responding lower back on your comparable question, your non taxable earnings for earnings tax is $5950, the $5300 even devoid of any costs isn't taxable for earnings tax, however the self employment is payable to IRS i'm not conscious that long island has a self employment tax and your taxable earnings will matter on the time-honored deduction for you in that state
