I am coming to New York in June and have made reservations at the Washington Square Hotel. It was recommended by Frommers. I picked it because I didn't want to stay in a skyscaper, I want something with some charactor. I picked Greenwich Village because I don't want to stay in Time Square and it looks like a cool place. Does anyone know anything about this hotel?

What hotels are near the broadway area and Time Square? We are wanting to go to NYC to see some broadway plays and do some shopping but all the hotels I have found share bathrooms. Does NYC not have hotels with rooms that have there own bathrooms?? I don't want to spend $200 a night and not have my own bathroom. Any ideas where to stay would be great. We are wanting to use public transportation or walk to where we want to go.

My brother lives in Manhattan and he thinks it takes about 1 or 1 1/2 hours but I just read that it takes 15 minutes to ride the subway from midtown Manhattan to the Bronx. He usually takes cabs so he's not the most reliable source.

I know there are trains but I'm really confused as to which one to use! My friend and I will be arriving from the UK on the 5th September and we need to get to Manhattan. Does anyone know the easier and cheapest way to do this? (We're students by the way so the emphasis is on cheapest!)

First Avenue and East 34th? It's the NYU Medical School..I have an interview there and if I get I will go there. It is along the East River and right next to the Amtrak. What area of Manhattan is it? Where would you recommend I live that would not be too far? Since it's right by the Amtrak would it be worth it for me to commute? My parents can afford for me to rent like 2k a month.

Thanks, I am a clueless Texas girl..all answers will be appreciated!!!
