is it important because they have The lady of liberty there, is it because it's two fifths of a home for the people? this is driving me crazy!

The city houses the headquarters for many banks, the stock exchange, and the most tourism for the state. All these things equal REVENUE. Of course yes, there are 9 million of us living here, so we residents do have something to do with NY state politics and tax scales as well!

Besides Lady Liberty and the Empire State Building, it is where nearly 3,000 people lost their lives in the WTC attacks. The United Nations is located here, where diplomats from 178 countries convene. There is Wall Street, the Financial Center, AMEX (American Exchange).

NYC is important to the state due to the amount of revenue generated by taxes from both individuals and businesses. Although geographically much smaller than the entire state NYC generates a majority of income. It's also the cultural and financial capitol of NYS. Additionally, you could argue that NYC is also just as important to it's neighboring states (NJ, CT etc...) for the same reasons

I think NYC is important to the State of New York because of the revenue it generates!! It's tremendous amounts of money!

I think you mean the Statue of Liberty. But what does "it's two fifths of a home for the people" mean? I don't understand your question.

NYC is important to NY state and the entire USA because the US financial system is dependent and based pretty much in NYC - ever heard of Wall Street ? Nasdaq... NYSE... ASE ???

New York city is not a state. New York is a state. Its important b/c it has the largest city in the U.S.

NYC is basically the ONLY important city in the state!

(and Long Island/Westchester area)
