looking at the prices for houses in NYC i wonder how people can afford to live there. a normal one bedroom apartment in manhattan costs over $1million!!! heck, an average house in queens or brooklyn is around $750K too!!!!!
is everyone a doctor/lawyer/banker there?
i wonder how people with normal jobs can live there....how does a school teacher or police officer survive earning just $50K/year????
even the suburbs are extremely expensive.....surely not everyone commutes for 2 hours each way every day just so they can find affordable housing.

Anyone know when Spring break takes place in New York and/or New Jersey? I like kids, but when I am on a Cruise Ship, I prefer NOT to do it when kids are on Spring break. It gets very hectic...I want to get away and relax. I see enough kids when I get back!!

I have business in NYC coming up soon and cannot afford to stay in Manhattan hotels! I recently stayed in Valley Stream and noticed the L.I.E. had terminals every few miles on the sunrise highway. Do these go directly to Penn Station and what kind of time element are we talking from the Rockville Center/Valley Stream area to Manhattan?
Also, are there similar service in other areas of LI where I could do the same thing that offer reasonable hotel rates? I prefer Hamton Inns or hotels of that class but am open to anything clean and reasonable!
Thanks very much for your help!

I am visiting next week to look at some colleges (namely, Harvard, MIT, Yale, Princeton, UPenn). If you live in or near those areas, then what is the weather like right now and what are people wearing?

I checked weather reports online, and they say around 40-50 degrees with lots of rain for next week, but if you have any specific advice on what kind of clothes to bring, please answer!

My best friend and I used to go there when we were younger and we'd hang out right next to the part where the East River is overlooking the skyline of Manhattan...and we still do but noticed that so called "hipsters" have basically bombarded the area. Sorry to say, most of these people are so SO fake and they know it. Maybe Williamsburg has always been a hipster hangout, I havent noticed it until 2 years ago....Anyone else notice this and what do you think?

Recently, I heard that women in ny are complaining there is a serious single straight male shortage in Manhattan?! Is this True. So my question goes to both single males and females
Does anyone have any statistics about the single female to single guy ratio??

For the guys- How do you like being single in Manhattan?? Do you love it, what are the pros and cons?? As a single male, do you feel outnumbered or do you feel there are plenty of single women out there??
For The women- How do you like being single in Manhattan?? Do you love it, what are the pros and cons
Do you feel you are outnumbered, or do you feel there are plenty of attractive quality single straight male in Manhattan??

I once lived in Chicago where the single guy to single female ratio is close to 3 or 4 to 1, meaning you have 3 to 4 guys fighting for every girl, not fun!!!
