Whi is Williamsburg, Brooklyn full of hipsters?

My best friend and I used to go there when we were younger and we'd hang out right next to the part where the East River is overlooking the skyline of Manhattan...and we still do but noticed that so called "hipsters" have basically bombarded the area. Sorry to say, most of these people are so SO fake and they know it. Maybe Williamsburg has always been a hipster hangout, I havent noticed it until 2 years ago....Anyone else notice this and what do you think?

I'm surprised you only noticed 2 years ago. It really seemed to happen in full force about 5+ years ago. The past few years, it's turning more into a problem with yuppies with baby carriages and other rich people. The 'hipsters' have been branching out into Bushwick, etc.. for awhile now because Williamsburg is getting to expensive for them too! Now, every new building that goes up is a luxury condo building with prices sometimes starting over $400,000 for a tiny place.

If you're talking about "the lot" where you had to walk down the very end of N. 7th St., next to a junkyard/overgrown lot and then sneak under a fence by some old building on the water - that area was bulldozed awhile back. We used to climb down there and there were lots of bushes and trash everywhere so no one could see us. We'd walk along the water and climb over piles of rotted wood to get to those weird stone things that looked like docks that went way out into the river. We'd go sit out there and drink beer. All that is gone now and it's just an open area. The last I heard is that NYU was building some huge athletic building there or something.

The little park that is at the water at the end of Grand St. is still there though where you can sit on the rocks. Some days, there aren't that many hipsters there. Sometimes just Hasidic Jews.

What do I think about it? I hate it and it makes me want to move but it would be stupid to leave my apartment because it's so cheap. I'm sure people consider me a hipster anyway since I'm a white girl in my 20's. Whatever. I just try to ignore them.

Well many people feel that it is full of hipsters. Williamsburg is one of Brooklyn's trendiest neighborhoods. It is like taking a piece of Manhattan and setting it in Brooklyn in a way. Certain hipsters, bohemians, or the trendy artsy typical New Yorker will settle in Williamsburg because it is cheaper than Manhattan, has more style than Queens, and is in proximity to Manhattan. yeah- its a bunch of people from a bunch of places other than NY and they are all trying to be what they think looks artsy and trendy-

some cool spots to hang though- but i couldnt live there- too many people trying too hard
