I am coming to New York in June and have made reservations at the Washington Square Hotel. It was recommended by Frommers. I picked it because I didn't want to stay in a skyscaper, I want something with some charactor. I picked Greenwich Village because I don't want to stay in Time Square and it looks like a cool place. Does anyone know anything about this hotel?

It used to be a sleazy place called The Hotel Earle; Bob Dylan lived there years ago. Now, it's called the Washington Square Hotel and it's clean and comfortable. The location is great - Washington Square Park, NYU, across the street from Babbo. Walk east on Waverly Place - less than two blocks - very inexpensive, interesting restaurant - Pane E Coccolati - good pastas, excellent desserts.

It's on Waverly Place, a nice neighborhood with NYU buildings surrounding it. Didn't know there was such a place as the Washington Square Hotel until you mentioned it. Waverly Place is smack in the heart of Greenwich Village, an equal distance from the West Village and East Village. Good chance you'll see celebrities in the West Village if you keep your eyes open. And you'll see the latest in the art world in the East Village.
