Live in the East Village, if not, you will just spend all of your time on the subway getting down there and cursing yourself on the subway ride home everynight.

I lived in the East Village, Upper West Side and the Upper East Side. The East Village has gotten SO much nicer than when I was there and would be cheaper than the West Village. I did not like the UES. I did love the UWS, as we were right next to the Park. Good Luck!

West village, definitely. Although west village is a bit pricey, a lot of celebrities live in that area. If you're 22, pretty much any where in the city is the best bet for finding people in your demographic.

Any of the three you named would be fine. E. Village is the most interesting & fun, but has its grungy side. It also has some new apartment construction. West Village is so F**n expensive it just isn't worth it.
