I may be moving to Chicago soon for a new job. The job would be located near O'Hare Airport, so I'd like to know about some of the best neighborhoods in that area (or fairly short commute) that are fairly safe in terms of crime, and aren't overly expensive. I know Chicago is more expensive than Cleveland....I have a very nice 2 bedroom apt. that I only pay $745/month for here, and I'd like to try and not go much over that in Chicago if I can....I'll be making slightly more money, so I could go a little higher in price if I have to in order to be in a nice, safe area. Thanks for any advice!

Your car overheats cause your ANTIFREEZE FROZE.
Your freshly dried laundry gets cold on 10 second walk back to apartment...The Whole Load..
Your emergency bottle of water stashed in car is frozen solid
Anyone else have one?

We've lived in FL all our lives and my husband just joined the Navy. After basic training, I'll be joining him while he completes 14 weeks of job-related training in Great Lakes. So... I have a lot of questions:

1. Where are some good areas to live in relation to the base? (We will be sharing a vehicle). "Waukegan" is a town that keeps showing up on searches.

2. I have a pit bull mix. He's a mutt we adopted from the SPCA, so we don't have papers on him, but you would know he's a pit by looking at him. I don't want to have my dog seized, and I'm not familiar with other states' breed restrictions. What do I need to know? (We are taking the dog with us!)

3. In case we cannot get on-base housing, what do I need to know about apartment complexes? Are there certain management companies I should avoid?

I would appreciate information from people who do or have lived in this immediate area! I need to know the facts so I can start preparing. Thanks in advance for your answers!

I heard that if I could prove my own car insurance, then I could do that? Is that true?
Or is there any company that don't have such age restriction?

I have my own car and insurance in California. But I am traveling to Chicago and really need a car. I am 20 years old.

Thanks.

I am from Sioux Falls, SD and will be making a big move to come and live in the city of Chicago. We are two females in our early twenties and would like some advice on safe places to live, with some fun and entertainment nearby. We will not have alot of money starting out so affordability is key. I will be bringing my dog along, so a safe place for when I take him outside is pretty important. Thank you for any input you can provide!

We are coming to Chicago and staying at the DT Chicago Hyatt - I've seen several different variations of directions to get to Great Lakes. What is the better option? To drive up 94 to 41? or up the Tri-State? Suggestions?
