Indiana is the southeast border of Chicago. It's about 15 minutes from downtown to the boarder without traffic.
From O'Hare airport it's 20 - 30 minutes to downtown.
From Midway airport it's about 15 minutes to downtown.

It's another 30 miles or so to the southwestern most part of Michigan, so about 30 - 45 minutes

I live about 45 minutes north of Chicago, to get from my house to my school in western michigan it's about 3.5 hours. My school is 1+ hours from the Indiana border. You do the math.

Just head Southeast leaving Chicago, pass city limits, Hello you are now in Indiana, head East and travel for a few minutes and turn left, travel a few more minutes and Hello you are in Michigan...

I live in NW Indiana about 45 - 50 miles from downtown and it takes me approximately 30 - 45 minutes to get into downtown depending upon weather and traffic.
