Skokie is just 9 miles from O'Hare Airport and 15 miles from downtown Chicago.

Chicago is a pretty spread-out city. My in laws live in the city (60659) but if they cross the street they are in Lincolnwood and if they go about 2 miles up the road they are Skokie. Now if you are on the southside of the city then Skokie is really far. For example from Midway airport to skokie is 37 minutes on the expressway or 25 miles but that all depends on traffic. Rush "hour" is from 3pm to 7pm.

Skokie is just north of the city of Chicago. You can get there by public transportation (red line 'L' from downtown to Howard, connecting to the yellow line to Skokie) in about an hour--less at rush hour. Driving will depend on traffic, but figure between 15 minutes and half an hour or from downtown.
