I'm trying to decide whether to go to the ocean and storm watch or the mountains and snowshoe for my birthday at the end of the month. The snow is only about 1 hour away and we can do that for a day trip anytime, but it's fun to stay over every once in a while. The ocean is always fun and there's a great hotel with a casino and shows and wonderful restaurants and a spa. HELP!

The emotional and human scars will take many more years to be satisfied. But, economically, has the healing process began to take an upward swing due to the increase in the tourist industry.

NEW YORK (Reuters) - New York City said on Wednesday it received a record 44 million tourists this year, extending a steady increase in visitors since 2002 as the city has recovered from the attacks on the World Trade Center.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg said in a statement that tourists spent some $24 billion while visiting the city this year.

The number of visitors has been steadily climbing after remaining stagnant at 35 million in 2002 following the September 11, 2001, hijacked-plane attacks on the World Trade Center.

In 2006, travelers from Britain led the way -- accounting for 1.2 million of the estimated 7 million foreign tourists -- while the other 37 million visitors came from elsewhere in the United States, Bloomberg said.

An estimated 1.25 million international travelers were visiting the city this week, between the Christmas and New Year's Day holidays, he said.

"The 44 million people who came to New York City in 2006 are an invaluable engine helping drive the city's economy," Bloomberg said. "New Yorkers from waiters and waitresses to hotel workers ... are supported by the millions of people that come here from around the world to experience the Big Apple."

He said the money spent by tourists in 2006 helped support nearly 350,000 jobs.

The number of tourists topped the 2005 record of 42.6 million visitors.

The city has forecast that 45.5 million people will visit during 2007 and it has set a target of attracting 50 million foreign and domestic tourists by 2015.

Hey everyone, I need to get from San Diego to the LAX airport. I need to know which of the Los Angeles bus terminals are closest to the air port, and if there is a shuttle to the airport. If there's no shuttle, how much should I expect to pay for a taxi? I haven't been to the states in a very long time, so I'm not sure how much prices have gone up.

We are planning a trip to Disney World sometime next year. It will be my husband and I, our 2 boys, and my mother-in-law. We will probably be going at Easter or in the summer as my mother-in-law isn't able to take time off of work(teacher). It looks as those are the peak season. We are on a budget and we are not able to stay in one room at the value resorts because they have a four person limit. We thought about renting two rooms at a value resort or renting one room at the Animal Kingdom lodge for about the same price. Which one would you do. Or does anyone have any different suggestions. Thanks!

I'm not looking for what st. has the best amusement park or sports. My family will be in a position in the next two years to choose to plant long term roots or relocate. One of us will be a cert. elem. school teacher, the other a nationally registered paramedic / firefighter. We have two young children.
Currently, we live in N.Ga. The positive aspects of staying are:
low cost of housing,
free college tuition, freedom to own firearms and a
teacher and paramedic shortage - job security.
The negative aspects of living in Ga.:
high rate of urban sprawl and the traffic that goes with it,
reverse discrimination and racial tension,
high immigrant population, schools ranked low nationally and it's generally flat, boring and disinteresting (no mountains, 4 hours to an ocean, can't see the stars .... suburban hell).
We've considered the Pacific Northwest and Utah. What places can you recommend for reasonable housing, gov't job opportunity and quality of living? East or West ... where and why?
