Doug, my wife is worried about the rain on Whidbey. And how expensive is it exactly?

Whidbey Island if I could afford it. I've been to both places. Jacksonville is the armpit of Florida, ranking right up there with Gainesville in the worst places to live in the Sunshine State.

Well, it is basically Seattle weather, so you'll get a good amount of rain. Average home cost is almost $380K according to bestplaces.net. Here's a comparison of the two cities:

There are definitely more vacation opportunities living in Jacksonville and you might like the weather better, depending on your preferences. The downsides are the crime and the big city feel. Whidbey Island maintains a small town feel even though it's next to Seattle.
