What are some other great things for a family visit besides the typically things in Nashville. I am looking for things maybe within an hour of Nashville. I know all about Country Scene and Opry Mills. Looking for other suggestions.

My kids really enjoy the Adventure Science Center. It is really easy to get to just off I-65. The Nashville Zoo is fun too. For some down home country cookin', try the Loveless Cafe (on Hwy 100) it has a souvenir shop and some other nice little shops in what used to be the motel. Also try Monelle's. It is a southern cookin' restaurant that is served family style (just remember to pass to the left!)

If your family is interested in Civil War sites, there are several in Franklin, TN--just about 25 min. from downtown Nashville. Carnton Plantation and the Carter House were basically ground zero for the Battle of Franklin. Franklin also has a quaint historic downtown area with nice shops and restaurants and Monelle's is there as well.

The Nashville area has several plantations to tour (Traveler's Rest, Belle Meade, Cheekwood (which is an art museum and botanical garden now) and Andrew Jackson's home The Hermitage.

Hope y'all have a good time!

There are plenty of State Parks, and natural areas to keep your family busy if you like hiking and the outdoors. http://www.state.tn.us/environment/parks/findapark/

The Natchez Trace PArkway is cool too but takes a long drive to finish it all.

Tennessee Performing Arts Center if you like plays etc.

Also check out some of the down town areas in the smaller towns I think thats pretty cool. Ill post some links at the bottom

Middle Tennessee is also the home to two whiskey makers who offer tours, but being a family trip I know that probally wont interest you. Ive never been to them but my friends have went. It dont really interest me since I dont drink but they said it was really interesting. http://www.dickel.com/en-row/History/
