Hey everyone, I need to get from San Diego to the LAX airport. I need to know which of the Los Angeles bus terminals are closest to the air port, and if there is a shuttle to the airport. If there's no shuttle, how much should I expect to pay for a taxi? I haven't been to the states in a very long time, so I'm not sure how much prices have gone up.

Do not take the Greyhound Bus. The station is in Downtown LA and not a real safe area.

Your better bet would be to take Amtrak from San Diego to Los Angeles Union Station. The route is called the Pacific Surfliner and will run you $29.00. From there you can take the FlyAway bus to LAX for $3.00.

If cost is an issue, depending on time of day you can also take the Commuter Trains. From San Diego take the Coaster to Oceanside, from Oceanside take the Metrolink to Union Station, this will be $18.00 or less. But these are commuter trains so they don't run at all times of the day

Greyhound Bus Station Los Angeles

My advice would be to take AmTrak (the train) instead of the bus. The train is slightly more expensive ($29 vs. $17.50), but the train is much faster than the bus. Plus, the train is alot more comfortable.

Even more important, a company called "FlyAway" operates a 24-hour shuttle, every hour, between the Los Angeles train station and the Los Angeles airport. The cost is three dollars. There is no shuttle service (as far as I can tell) between the Los Angeles Greyhound (bus) station and the airport, so you would most likely have to take a taxi. A taxi from the bus station and the airport will cost quite a bit more than the $15 you would save by taking the bus.

Enjoy your trip!

The LA greyhound station is not in a nice area (lots of panhandlers, drug addicts, drunk people, etc) but in the middle of the day it's not too threatening. You'll probably be better off taking everyone's advice and going Amtrak, but if you insist on saving money, you can get from greyhound to LAX on 2-3 busses.
1. Go out to E 7th street and either walk west for 20 minutes to 7th and Main, or take the 60/760 from 7th and Alameda to 7th and Main.
2. From 7th and Main take the 733/33 towards Culver City (west?). Get off on Venice and Sepulveda.
3. Take C6 Culver City south. That will take you to the LAX city bus center, where there is a free shuttle.

All in all this way will take 2.5-3 hours, but will only cost about $2.50

well you can take Amtrak ( from San Diego to Los Angeles,)
then you can catch a direct bus from Union station to LAX
for $3.00 and if you leave early enough (ie 3 hours before your flight from LAX you can even check in your baggage at LAX
(depending what airline not all the airlines have an agreement with the baggage service company)
I suggest you AVOID greyhound AT COST
mostly because their terminal is in skid row (in LA() and there
is NO direct bus from the Greyhound Station to LAX
yes a taxi would work but that would be at least $45.00
