I want to spend a few months exploring Canada, backpacking, busses, trains, etc. I plan on staying in hostels, doing odd jobs for extra cash, and just having fun.
Any advice? I am wondering how I should pack, how much money this might take, and where I should make sure to visit. Basically the more information, the better.
I have been doing a lot of research online, but I am looking for opinions of regular people, as opposed to travel agencies and such.
Also, I am from Washington State, US, if that's important.

Which is about 730 km. I recently saw a photo of an outback road in Oz that had a sign that said "Warning! No fuel for 900km"

If I bought my UK car to Oz I couldn't use that road - so what I am wondering is, is there any way of driving on that highway other than in a long distance truck?

Do Australian cars have bigger petrol tanks or what? I'm just curious now

BTW Photo is here http://outbacktowing.tripod.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/truck3.jpg

If you were stranded by an ice storm, how would you handle it? I would try to be patient because I know it is something that the airlines couldn't avoid. But what gets me in the media is why don't people have their cell phones with them while they are in line and call for hotel rooms while they are in line waiting for plane tickets that way?? That is what I would do, or I would call family members and have them call for hotel rooms for me. Opinions??

I am going to Disney Land in June. My friend is making me go on rollercoasters with her, the only problem is I have no idea if I will get sick on the rides or not. I'm paranoid to death of that happening, and I don't know why because I've never had an issue before. I have never in my life been on a coaster, because of this paranoia. She said she'd get me some pills for it (I forget the name, it began with a D) and I would be fine. Do these pills really work, and is there a way to tell if you would get sick on one of these rides? I'm just fine on rides like the tilt-a-whirl, scrambler, ferris wheel, etc..

Hi, I'm moving to NYC sometime late this year after I graduate college. I don't drive and do not have any funiture. I just need to move myself, my cat, and a few boxes of momentos (journals, photo albums, yearbooks, some books) and about I have about 7 really nice porcelian dolls from childhood that are still in the boxes. I really want to take all this with me. What it comes down to is about 1 or 2 big trunks worth of things, nothing huge, but I think more than I can take on an airplane (or can I?).

What do you guys recommend? Like I said, I cannot drive or I would just rent a car and take this stuff that way as it's only about as much as a trunk would hold. I don't have any family or friends who would do this for me. I thought about taking a bus or train to NYC, but I don't think they allow pets (do they?). Perhaps I could take all my stuff that way.

Thanks for any advice!

we are a group of 5-10 students, interested in touring whole india in april. (is that a good time?)
Our budget and time is limited (yup we r students), say about 2 weeks and only a few hundred dollars.
We are aware that india is really really really big and 2 weeks time is not sufficient to see all of it... but we wanted to try anyways...
we don't want to miss shimla, goa, beaches n yup definitely taj mahal... n forts n camels of rajasthan, darjeeling... some bit of camping...
Can anybody help us out?
I checked out some sites. They only got east/south/west/north/central package tours. nothing like all of it in 14 days...
Any bright ideas, suggestions?

I know awhile back you couldn't have any liquids or toothpaste, etc. Have they changed that yet? I am also flying with a 3 months old so I'm curious about being able to bring formula. If anybody has a list of what is accepted, please let me know. Thanks!!
