Which is about 730 km. I recently saw a photo of an outback road in Oz that had a sign that said "Warning! No fuel for 900km"

If I bought my UK car to Oz I couldn't use that road - so what I am wondering is, is there any way of driving on that highway other than in a long distance truck?

Do Australian cars have bigger petrol tanks or what? I'm just curious now

BTW Photo is here http://outbacktowing.tripod.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/truck3.jpg

A Holden Statesman with the large tank is about 80 liters, but is on the V8 model, and same with a commo. but fuel economy is about average with that of ur car, so i guess if you were going to drive said road, you would either need a long range tank like you said, which could be fitted to most Utes, 4x4's and cars, or like the other girl said just take a couple of jerry cans with you and hope for a good clean run, lol ;)
