I cant find my birth certificate, and the US Passport website says i need proof of U.S. citizenship. Will a social security card work for that?

no, your social security card doesn't help. You need your birth certificate. You can get a new one at your county health department, or at city hall in the town you were born in. If you don't live in that town anymore, go on line and search for your county health department. You can call and find out what is required to get a copy. I'm sure it's a form to fill out and a check.

Good Luck

You have to provide a birth certificate with the official seal on it. You have to order a birth certificate from the state you were born in. It varies by state. For example, California sends all birth certificates out from Sacramento, the state capitol. Other states, you apply at the county level. Applying by mail can take weeks. Some states will let you apply on-line or by phone and pay with a credit or debit card.

A good place to look up your state and get the info you need to order the birth certificate is www.cyndislist.com
This is a genealogy website for people who are searching out their family tree, but it also has info for how to order legal documents.

Good luck.

Unfortunately you will need to obtain a Birth Certificate in order to send in with your passport application.

You will need to get it from the state that you were born in. There are certain websites (I'm sorry I don't know them off hand) that you can order via there if you no longer live in the state you were born. They should be about $12.00 for a certified copy. If you are though living in the state you were born into, just run down to the government center to pick one up.

Best of Luck to you!

Yes, you need a birth certificate, identification of some sort, and 3 pictures, my suggestion is just go to walmart or somewhere where they do passport pictures and get them done there. It took me 3 trips to get my application in, 2 times because of pictures.

It might help.

The SS card can also be used.

If you want a new copy of your birth certificate, contact your local Department of Vital Statistics. You can pick-up a new one for a couple of bucks and a 4-6 week wait.

You need your birth certificate. If you're no longer living where it was filed, you can go to www.vitalchek.com and they'll overnight you a copy of it. Most states are now represented on Vitalchek, and I've used it myself - had the b.c. in 48 hours! :)
