I am Canadian, and often cross the border, sometimes on Business, sometimes on Pleasure. They have decided to question me regularly now, and I am doing nothing wrong, but it takes a lot of time -- I now have to plan to arrive early.

I think it's because I don't answer in the way they expect.

What's the wording you use when crossing into the US border that works smoothly?

I've recently mentioned and asked whether I should move to Ottawa Canada and have recieved some feedback which I am very thankful for but someone suggested moving to Vancouver and I have to asked which place is better or more acceptable for someone seeking to move to a new city.

Vancouver or Ottawa?

I'm in a small band that plays original material in local bars, occasionally doing the out-of-town show. We rarely break even let alone make money.

What would be involved in playing a gig across the border in the Toronto area for fun?

Do we need passports or work permits or anything crazy?

I'm planning on moving out of the US (not for political reasons) just to experience something new...I wanted to try London, England but can't really build the courage. Besides, I love the look and feel of what Canada has to offer.

So my questions are: Should I make the move? How is the money transition and how much should I save before shipping out? And finally I have chosen to move to Ottawa (No Clue) is this a good idea?

Thanks to anyone in advance who answers this...=)

I searched for this topic, but all I was able to find was stuff about guns and foodstuffs. This question applies to both my pocketknife and any swords/knives/sharp shiney things I might be able to buy in canada. I was saving up for all the seasons of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but weapons are just SO awesome, i might buy one instead.

Our school is going on a spring trip to Canada soon, which is why I ask.

Being a Canadian, I heard I need to declare (or fill up a form) when I leave Canada (to U.S. or oversea) with any valuable items (e.g. expensive watch, jewelry) so that I won't be bothered when I return to Canada (so that Canada custom won't suspect you purchase the item(s) outside Canada and subject them to taxing)? True or it is just urban legend?

Thanks!!

I have 2 questions about Canadian immigration (I was taking the self-assessment test at http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/skilled/assess/index.html ):

1. For "Factor 6 – Adaptability (maximum 10 points) Section 5. Principal Applicant or Spouse / Common-Law Partner has family in Canada" on this page http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/skilled/assess/Adaptability.asp , does COUSIN count as a FAMILY?

2. For "Factor 3 – Work Experience (maximum 21 points)" at http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/skilled/assess/WorkExperience.asp , I currently have 2 years of work experience. Now, if I apply now, it would take at least another 2 years to be called for an interview. By these 2 years my work experience would be 4 years. So, at the time of my interiew, would the immigration office count me as a 2 year experienced person or 4 year?

Thanks for your answers and I would really appreciate some reliable answers.
