I read that i need my birth certificate and photo id.. but what photo id is ok?

Contrary to another answer, you do NOT need a passport by land or sea. You DO need a photo I.D., generally a drivers license is used, AND proof of citizenship (birth certificate). If you do not have a Drivers License, then contact Canadian Services and see what other forms of photo I.D. are available for you.

A photo ID issued by your government.

You can no longer leave the US and come back into the US with out a us passport, an ID will not be accepted. You must have a US Passport to return into the US no matter what country you go to now. The law just passed within the last few months. Check out the us embassy or the us passport office for ruling.

Pichi is correct, at least for another year. However, if you cross by car American customs and immigration is likely (also) to demand documentation on ownership of the car.

you need a visa in order to pass legal to the united states and you should buy it.good luck!!!
