I searched for this topic, but all I was able to find was stuff about guns and foodstuffs. This question applies to both my pocketknife and any swords/knives/sharp shiney things I might be able to buy in canada. I was saving up for all the seasons of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but weapons are just SO awesome, i might buy one instead.

Our school is going on a spring trip to Canada soon, which is why I ask.

And the reason why i need it is that it is not just a pocketknife, it has screwdrivers, a flashlight, pliers, bottle opener, and it is shiney.

Since you are going to Canada on a school trip, I am thinking that you would not be allowed to purchase a knife, sword or weapon of any sort, or carry one, including a pocket knife. Be sure to check with your teacher before risking this.

Knives of certain types and sizes (usually longer than a 4" blade, and/or double edged) can be considered a weapon, and weapons are not allowed over the border. At the very least they need to be declared.

I would highly recommend just forgetting about doing this across borders, esp. on a school trip.

Depends on how your going to Canada. If your flying, then no, you cant bring one across the border. If its by bus, you could, but I wouldnt recommend it. If you get an immigration officer whos having a power trip, then they will search your luggage thoroughly. If they find the knife (weapon) they might not let you across the border. If you really want this pocket knife, why not just get it at a flea market in the USA? Its a lot cheaper and you wont have no hassles than if you were to cross the border with one.

Don't try it. If it's found, it will be confiscated and you will be in trouble. Not to mention getting your whole group into trouble and delays too. And you could be turned back at the border.

And why would you need a knife anyway? Not only are the inspectors liable to search your luggage, but they also use x-rays and metal detectors on large groups. I saw a busload being searched the other day.

if you are on a plane, pack the knife with your checked luggage, not the carry on. I came back from Mexico and brought a crecsent wrench with me with a screwdriver ( I travelled to Mexico from Canada with a bicycle and sold the bike in Mexico), and the airlines confiscated my tools and said they would mail it back to me...never got them....anyways, you can buy a knife like that here in Canada....

Not to say that it won't be, but it is very unlikely that your bags will be searched.

Customs crossing the US/Canada border consists mostly of making sure you are a legal citizen of one or the other. Showing ID and answering a few questions usually covers it.

Tho Dana B is correct, they probably won't search your luggage.....if they do, they will probably confiscate your "weapon".

A knife is considered a weapon.

Why would you want to bring a knife with you on a school trip to Canada?
