I'm curious whether or not I would need a special visa or a work permit if I wanted to get a simple job in Australia and live there over the summer (my winter).

Is it possible just to travel there, get a summer job, and leave?

Can anyone please advise on tipping for services out there please? Usual things ..... taxi drivers, service in restaurants and bars, room service etc ........ reason I ask is that I understand it's not the norm to tip anywhere out there but doing so for 'good service' will not offend. This seems to be a complete reverse to New York where tipping is almost compulsory!

How different is life in Australia from American life? I'm a graduate looking to find work outside of the US, I've also considered England, Spain, Ireland and Scotland. I'm looking for a place with friendly people, but still find an area that isn't outrageously expensive. I'm also a vegeterian so I would like to find a place with a lot of options for me.
