I'm sorry, but I don't know of any cruise lines that go to Austrailia, but if this helps, more people die every year in a traffic accident than in a plane crash. So you should be more scared about driving than about flying.

good luck. Australia is a great place by the way.

I flew to Australia in 2005 with Qantas and trust me i was scared. Prior to that flight i had only flown for 2 hours to Malta so long haul was a big deal to me.
Having said all that I enjoyed our flight to Australia and can't wait to do it again. The time really does pass quickly if you keep busy. You have the seat back TV screens in which are several films to watch, music, watch the flight path, games etc and they do keep you amused. Take a book to read and some wet wipes and cream for your lips. Flying is drying on the skin etc. Walk around the cabin frequently to keep the blood in your legs flowing and help prevent DVt's. You get plenty to eat and drink on the flight too. We flew at 10pm from heathrow and I would fly those times again as they were great. You get fed a meal and a few drink about an hour or so into your flight and then many settle for a sleep.
We stopped off in Bangkok for 2-3 hours in transit which was nice. Gave us time to have a walk around the airport (air-side) and get light snack and drink before re-boarding the flight onwards to Sydney.
I say go to Australia and fly.
Going by boat would be expensive and take so long.

It will take you five or six weeks by sea and cost you a fortune. You would be better off attending a Fear of Flying course. Why deny yourself an excellent, safe and cheap way of travelling? I have been involved in Fear of Flying courses in Australia run in association with QANTAS for nearly thirty years. British Airways supports the courses run by Aviatours in the UK http://www.aviatours.co.uk/

Give it a try. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Just take a few sleeping tablets and knock youself out. They are usually night flights anyway from the UK so sleeping shouldnt be a problem. Dont let not flying hold you back.

Buy yourself one of those portable DVD players. (my son has one they are great, down to $100 here) Relax and watch some DVD's while flying - takes your mind of things. they do hire them out of planes .. but expensive.

Taking a cruise would take forever !! You'll be fine ....
Take care
