I've heard so many wonderful things about Australia, and lately I've been thinking about planning a trip there next year. It's always been somewhere I wanted to visit. Since I prefer vacationing during warm months, what time of year is best for visiting Sydney? There a tons of books on visiting Australia at the library and bookstore; which would provide the most currentl and accurate information? And, also, me being a black male, I've heard some 'unconfortable' things from a black male, a co-worker , who's been there ( he says he's been stared at for long periods of time everywhere he went, leered at, pointed at and kids have asked to touch his skin as they've never seen a black person before), but I prefer to hear from people who live there, how I'd be treated. I expect some double-takes since there aren't any black people there. Of course, I wouldn't want to go to a place where I'd be treated like an unwelcome guest. Thanks!

We are going on a holiday to Cairns in late October and looking for some good quality self contained accomodation. It would need to have two bedrooms (2 adults , one child) .... ideally we are thinking of something along the lines of a small house / cottage. Can anyone recommend and provide links ?

My dad just took our whole family to Australia for 3 weeks. He worked soooo hard to make it perfect, such as taking us on tours, scuba diving at the great barrier reef, going to th opera house, going out to dinner every night, and so so soo much more. I want to get him a present to show him how thankful I am for him doing this for us. Any ideas?

I haven't been to Surfer's Paradise in Queensland for about 17 years now; I was looking online and it seems awfully cheesy now. Of course I expect change after all that time but it just doesn't seem to be... a good change. Does anyone know if it has gotten tacky or if it's just the way it seems on the websites I have found?

on television. The one thing that bothers me is that from TV, I have heard there are so many poisonous snakes and spiders. It is really that bad? Honestly, are they just mainly in the woods or ranches, or do they inhabit the cities and towns as well? Or is this just sensationalized for a story on TV?

I'm from the UK and I've never had a chance to visit Sydney and I know that even if I go there I'll only see the tourist side of it. I'm writing a small story on a teenage girl who goes from the UK to Sydney for couple of months (to live with a rich family) I want it to be feasible so I'm doing research... as locals what's Sydney like, because every city has a different and magical charm ;D

Hi all,
My husband and I have been looking at nursing jobs in Australia and one clinic is prepared to offer us sponsered migration.
What i want to know is...is it best for us to agree to sponsered migration visa or should we get skilled migration visas?

If we were to were to have sponsered visa's can we still apply for permanent residency in Australia? Or do we have to have skilled migration visas to do that?

Basically our aim is to both work as nurses in Australia but to also become perminent residents too as we want to stay and not return to Uk. We would sell our property here and everything in order to set up home in Australia.

I am just rather confused about which visas to have?

I'm going with a friend and we intend to rent a car and drive there and stay for a night or two at Hunter Valley in Aug. Am looking for the best accommodation in town that offers the best value-low in price, good location and clean & comfortable. Any suggestions on what to do there other than visiting wineries since Aug is still winter month? How much can one expect to spend for this visit?

.... and not a seasoned air traveller! Appreciate your advice on :
(1) We are getting our connecting flight at Dubai as a stopover for 2-3 hours where we will stay in the airport. Both journies will be with Emirates. Do we collect our bags as normal and re-check in on the connecting flight or are the bags automatically transferred for us?
(2) As the Oz voltage is the same, do we need adaptors for hairdryers, chargers etc?
May sound silly questions, but when you've never done it, you've never done it! Sensible answers only please..... cheers!

and would like some advice on where to stay and what to do and see while I am there. Is there any night-life? Besides aquatic activities are there any other fun things to do like bicycling or hiking? Is it fairly easy to get around without having to rent a car? How is the food and the shopping? Ok, I think I've asked enough. The most comprehensive and detailed response gets my nod for best answer. Thanks!
