Australian seasons are the reverse of European seasons. Our coldest month is July while our warmest is January. For convenience, Australia has adopted the northern European idea of four seasons each of three months duration but nowhere in Australia is really like that.

Aboriginal Australians had between two and eight named and identified seasons depending on the language and location. In the tropical north, where Europeans speak of only the wet season or the dry season, there were five seasons in the northwest, six around Darwin and eight on Cape York Peninsula.

The main thing to remember, however, is that when it's summer in Italy, it's winter in Australia and when it's winter in Italy, it's summer in Australia. Another thing to remember is that our most southerly city, Hobart, is the same latitude as Rome so all of Australia can be considered to be south of Rome extending through north Africa to equatorial Africa. It is very different from Europe.

It is winter here in Australia. But note please that Australia is a LARGE country. It might be winter, but up north of the country - such as Queensland and the Northern Territory, it will still be quite warm as it is near the equator.

Where I live, in southern New South Wales, it is quite cold - below 0º C at night here.

It's mid-winter in Australia at the present time.
I'm looking forward to September when spring and the warmer weather is here again.

You may not have perfect English but it's a lot better than my Italian. :)
