In Australia you will find that they are more commonly called flats or units than apartments.

Apartments that are 20Kms out of the city area either north of south, Western suburbs are close to the beach so they would be more expensive.

If you go 20 ks west u r in the sea, 20k's east you are in the hills, 20k's north you are in a market garden, 20ks south u r in a winery. Try Plympton or Brooklyn Park, they are close to the airport, 4 k's to city 4 ks to beach.

Further south and north you go, cheaper it gets but (you are from Sydney right) some of those suburbs are a lot like the really derro parts of Cambletown.
